Painting Guide
Painting is required for long-term durability, weather resistance, and warranty coverage. The mud kitchen arrives with a temporary water-based stain for transport protection only. Paint before assembly for best results and complete coverage of all surfaces.
Recommended process: Apply minimum 2 coats of quality exterior primer, sealer and undercoat (Dulux 1 Step Prep recommended — provides mould resistance and stain blocking). Follow with minimum 2 coats of exterior-grade paint (Dulux Weathershield recommended). Use a brush rather than spray for better penetration into timber. Ensure complete coverage of all surfaces including edges and corners.
Natural timber note: Timber may develop minor cracks and gaps over time due to natural expansion and contraction. This is normal and does not affect structural integrity. Cracks typically close once moisture returns. Proper painting significantly reduces this effect.
Safety & Placement Information
Supervision: Adult supervision required at all times during play.
Placement: Level ground with good drainage | Avoid low-lying areas prone to flooding | Stable surface to limit movement | Natural shade recommended to reduce sun exposure and extend timber life
Weather: Cover or bring indoors during extended wet weather, heavy rain, thunderstorms, or strong winds. A waterproof cover is strongly recommended.
Ongoing maintenance: Regularly inspect all components and hardware for security. Touch up paint as needed. If the structure looks uneven, use a level to check placement and adjust as needed.
Assembly & Care Guide
Assembly: Paint all components before assembly for best results. Pre-fabricated panels make setup straightforward. Detailed step-by-step assembly instructions and all hardware are included in the carton. Basic DIY skills and standard tools required.
Care: Wipe down surfaces regularly. Avoid leaving standing water in or around the kitchen. Inspect and tighten hardware periodically. Touch up paint annually or as needed. Cover or store indoors during extended wet periods.
Sink: Plumbable for optional water connection — fittings not supplied. Can also be used with a bucket or hose. Empty after play to prevent stagnant water buildup.
Blackboard: Use standard blackboard chalk. Wipe clean with a damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners that may damage the blackboard surface.
